Zayed Future Energy Prize The Zayed Future Energy Prize represents the vision of the Late Founding Father and President of the United Arab Emirates, Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan al Nahyan, who championed environmental stewardship. This annual award celebrates achievements that reflect innovation, long-term vision and leadership in renewable energy and sustainability. We invite you to be a part of this vision and our commitment to finding solutions that will meet the challenges of climate change, energy security and the environment.

The new categories for the Zayed Future Energy Prize are:

  1. SMEs & NGOs
  2. Lifetime Achievement for an Individual
  3. Large Corporations

1.  Large Corporation

This category is open to large corporations with a focus on renewable energy and sustainability. A strong candidate in this category will have a clear vision for the long-term future of energy and a coherent, sustainable strategy for its own role in this future. It already has significant revenues from renewable energy and is experiencing strong growth in its renewable-energy related business areas. The company and its management have exhibited strong thought leadership at the highest levels of the industry. Key qualities include:

Impact

  • Major investments and business interests related to renewable energy and sustainability
  • Sustainable and successful business model with continued strong growth
  • A global presence
  • Has introduced game-changing solution(s) that have gained real traction in the industry
Long-Term Vision
  • Long-term research and development (R&D) plans that support a coherent long-term vision
  • Excellent future growth strategy and sizeable addressable market
Leadership
  • High-profile team with a clear thought leadership role amongst industry peers
  • Commitment to raising awareness and supporting renewable energy policy development and regulation
Innovation
  • Track record of introducing innovative, unique products or solutions
  • Strong pipeline of future innovation

To be eligible for this category, nominees must be corporations with revenues exceeding $100m per year. Enterprises with lower revenues may apply for the SME/NGO category.

2. SME & NGO

This category is open to small and medium enterprises and non-governmental organisations. Nominees should be SMEs or NGOs that have made a clear impact, either through disseminating a particular solution, or through furthering knowledge, awareness, policy development or technology. The organisation has a strong track record of bringing innovative solutions to the industry and has demonstrated its ability to apply these innovations effectively in the field. Key qualities include:

  • Clear, significant and positive impact either in the development and dissemination of a solution, product or technology, or by affecting change through other means
  • Demonstrated commitment to furthering the renewable energy industry as a whole, for example through advocacy, stakeholder engagement, standards development, education and public awareness, etc.
Innovation
  • Has developed disruptive, innovative solutions, services or initiatives (business / technology / policy / research / other) with clear, tangible benefits
  • Innovations have been successfully adopted or implemented and have gained real traction within the industry
Leadership
  • High-profile team with a clear thought leadership role amongst industry peers
  • Commitment to raising awareness and supporting renewable energy policy development
Long-Term Vision
  • Sustainable operating model for long-term growth and continued success
  • Clear vision for the long-term future of energy, which drives ongoing work and new initiatives

To be eligible for this category, nominees should be either an enterprise with less than $100m in annual revenues, or a non-profit / non-governmental organisation. Companies with higher revenues may apply for the Large Corporation category.

3. Lifetime Achievement for an Individual

This category is open to an individual with an outstanding record of achievement in the sector. Nominees may come from a variety of backgrounds, including academic, political, technological, business or other fields in renewable energy and sustainability. A strong candidate is expected to have made an exceptional impact on the industry with distinct personal achievements over a prolonged period of involvement. Key qualities include:

  • Clear, significant and positive impact either in the development and dissemination of a solution, product or technology, or by affecting change through other means
  • Demonstrated commitment to furthering the renewable energy industry as a whole, for example through advocacy, stakeholder engagement, standards development , education and public awareness, etc \
Leadership
  • Widely recognised as an outstanding leader in their field
  • Committed to raising awareness and supporting renewable energy policy development
Innovation
  • Individual contribution to the development of disruptive, innovative solutions, services or initiatives (business / technology / policy / academia / other) with clear, tangible benefits
  • Innovations have been successfully adopted or implemented and have gained real traction within the industry
Long-Term Vision
  • Clear vision for the long-term future of energy, which drives ongoing work and new initiatives

Only candidates who have been nominated by a third party are eligible for this prize and self nominations will not be considered.
